Relevant tutors and graduate students:
At 8:30 on December 15, 2022, the School of Mechanical Engineering held the 2022 autumn degree Evaluation meeting (hereinafter referred to as the "degree meeting") online. There were 25 members and no absentee.
This semester, a total of 25 applicants have applied for the defense, including 18 doctoral students and 7 master students, including 7 full-time master students and 0 part-time master students. Two rounds of "academic misconduct detection" were conducted before the dissertation submission and the academic degree conference, and the results met the requirements of the university.
In the process of dissertation evaluation, according to "Several Regulations of Yanshan University on Further Improving the Quality of Graduate Degree Thesis", "Implementation Rules for Degree Awarding of Yanshan University" and "Management Measures for the Quality Process of Doctoral Degree Thesis of School of Mechanical Engineering (Trial)" (No. 6 of Yanshan University [2022]), Three members of the academic degree Evaluation Committee were assigned to review a doctoral student's thesis with "defense after major modification" in the internal submission process before the pre-defense, and they all agreed to the pre-defense. One doctoral student's thesis that "did not meet the requirements of the defense" was submitted to the members of the academic degree Evaluation Committee for review in the internal submission process before the pre-defense of graduate school. After the review, it was sent to the original reviewers of the degree office for re-evaluation, and the review result was "defense after major modification". After the appeal was passed, 3 members of the academic degree evaluation committee were assigned to review and finally agreed to the pre-defense. For 2 doctoral students who had "failed to meet the requirements of the defense and defended after major modification" in the internal submission process before the pre-defense, the degree application was terminated according to the college documents, and finally the degree application of 2 doctoral students was terminated. Three members of the academic degree Evaluation Committee were assigned to review 5 doctoral dissertations with "defense after major modification" in the degree center of Graduate School, and the final review results were all approved for defense. One doctoral student's thesis with "defense after major modification" appeared in the submission process of the degree Center of Graduate School. After passing the appeal, it was submitted to the members of the degree Evaluation Committee for review. After passing the review, it was sent to the original reviewer of the degree office for re-evaluation. Three members of the academic degree Evaluation Committee were assigned to review the dissertation defense after major revision of a doctoral student who did not complete the revision in the last semester, and the final review result was agreed to the defense. Finally, 6 people agreed to the defense, and 1 person did not complete the revision.
Among the 24 graduate students who passed the dissertation review, 1 doctoral student did not complete the revision and did not defend, and 23 students organized and passed the dissertation defense. One graduate student who failed to defend his dissertation due to illness last semester organized and passed the dissertation defense this semester. Finally, 24 students passed the dissertation defense. One graduate student who passed the defense in this semester has not been formally published, and has not met the relevant regulations of the school and the college to publish the degree thesis. One person did not meet the conditions for publication last semester, but has met them this semester, and therefore attends the degree conference. In summary, a total of 24 materials were reviewed in this degree meeting, including 16 doctoral students and 8 master students.
In the end, all the committee members voted: 16 doctoral students and 8 master students were recommended to be awarded corresponding degrees.
On the basis of careful review of the materials and full discussion of relevant issues, the members pointed out that there were some problems in the dissertation, such as non-standard charts, uncondensed titles, language expression and writing skills needed to be improved, and required the relevant graduate students to revise the thesis according to the opinions of the members.
The meeting also discussed and voted on the evaluation and appointment of external tutors in the fall of 2022. In addition, some issues such as improving the pertinence of thesis submission, postgraduate training and dissertation quality improvement were discussed. The college will further take corresponding measures to strengthen the management of relevant links on the above problems and the suggestions put forward by the members of the meeting.
